Pascal Champagne

New Media Artist, Composer & Creative Technologist

Pascal Champagne is a Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Design and Computation Arts from Concordia University. Originally a painter and active musician, he has transposed his artistic rigor onto monumental digital mediums. Today, he designs immersive works ranging from architectural video mapping to generative AI performances.

Pascal Champagne New Media Artist

His path is rooted in dual expertise. Trained at Concordia University within the prestigious Design and Computation Arts program, he learned to fuse the critical thinking of Fine Arts with the power of computer programming.

This academic background, combined with his roots in painting and woodworking, gives him a unique approach: he does not submit to technology; he sculpts it with the eye of a plastic artist. For Pascal, code and projection mapping are the new pigments allowing him to paint directly onto architecture and volume.

A Hybrid Foundation: Art Through Code and Traditional practice
Musician and Composer

Music is a core component of his work. He composes original scores that drive the visual experience, allowing him to build cohesive projects where sound and image are fully synchronized.

Beyond his solo work, Pascal has served as the Musical Director for the dance company Trip The Light Fantastic since 2016. In this role, he has shaped the company’s sonic identity in close collaboration with choreographer Kyra Jean Green, composing original scores for stage productions and screen—most notably for the award-winning dance film TOUCH.

Creative Leadership & Technology

As a Creative Technologist, he masters the complex engineering behind immersive art, often stepping into leadership roles to guide the artistic vision. With over 20 years of experience, he has collaborated on world-class projects:

R&D and Innovation: Technical R&D Lead for Panasonic and Moment Factory, directing research on creative applications for high-speed projectors (real-time tracking).

Visual Art & Mapping: Solo realization of the projection mapping on Dale Chihuly’s sculptures for the Winter Brilliance installation at Barneys New York (on behalf of Christie Digital).

Executive Creative Direction: Acted as Executive Creative Director for Territoires Olfactifs, overseeing both the creative vision and the technology architecture of this AI-driven multisensory installation.

Immersive Show Programming: Full timeline programming for the SuperReal experience in New York (a Moment Factory production).

Artistic Direction: Served as Artistic Director for the 350th Anniversary of Nicolet (Ode au fleuve), orchestrating the AV performance and projection mapping.

Urban Art & Interactivity: Collaboration with the duo VJ Suave for the project Floresta Encantada, managing micro-controller programming and interaction design.

Prototyping: Design of connected objects for the Banff Centre (Illuminations Project).

Cloud Canopy: The Digital Alter Ego

For his personal performance and generative art projects, he operates under the identity Cloud Canopy. This project explores the frontiers of artificial intelligence and audiovisual art, creating “post-human” works where the scripts and algorithms become the paintbrush. It is under this alias that he presents his live coding performances and immersive installations at digital art festivals like MUTEK.
